On 6 February 2023 a major earthquake struck south-east Turkey, affecting ten cities including Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Gaziantep and Adıyaman. Later that day a second powerful earthquake hit the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş, around 80 miles north of Gaziantep.
More than 55,000 people lost their lives, around 130,000 were injured and millions were displaced.
Our team quickly mobilised to raise urgent support for those affected. Through the generosity of our donors we were able to provide essential relief, such as food, clean water and other basic necessities, to families facing unimaginable hardship.
Our donation policy
Mercy Appeal will always try to allocate your donation exactly as you specify. If that is not possible, we will redirect it to similar life-saving aid in the same country, or to urgent needs in other regions.
