Who we are
Mercy Appeal is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England and Wales (charity number 1196084), 167-169 Sunbridge Road, Bradford, BD1 2HB. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. If you have any questions about your data, email mercyappeal24@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
Contact and volunteer forms. Your name, email address, phone number, message and any file you choose to attach, such as a CV. We use this to reply to you and to consider volunteer applications. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us and, for volunteers, taking steps at your request before a volunteering arrangement begins.
Donations. Online donations are taken by our payment provider, Zeffy, which collects your payment details and Gift Aid declaration directly on its own secure pages. We receive your name, email address, the amount and your Gift Aid status, and use them to thank you, claim Gift Aid from HMRC and keep the financial records charity law requires. Bank transfers are handled by your bank and ours.
Website security. When you send a form we record the network (IP) address it came from, to protect against spam and abuse. It is stored with your message and deleted with it. The public website does not use analytics or advertising cookies and sets no cookies at all.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries and volunteer applications only as long as we need them to deal with your request, and we review and delete old messages regularly. Donation and Gift Aid records are kept for six years after the end of the financial year they relate to, as HMRC requires.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only with the providers that help us run the charity, such as our payment provider and email service, with HMRC for Gift Aid claims, or where the law requires it. Zeffy is based in Canada, a country the UK recognises as providing adequate protection for personal data.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Email mercyappeal24@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
